About me
Hello, I am Karel Claeys, an enthusiastic freelance sound engineer based in Oostkamp, Belgium. My journey into the world of sound began with a deep love of music and the desire to be involved in creating the perfect sound. As a passionate sound engineer, I am dedicated to delivering high-quality audio experiences. I am also determined to continuously improve my skills and expand my knowledge. I am open to new challenges and driven to complete every job with precision and dedication.
Musical roots
My parents, both talented choral singers, instilled my love for music very strongly. I grew up in an environment where music was central. As a young teenager, I crafted my very first drum kit using washing powder boxes. Many years later, I took my first steps as a real drummer in a band thanks to some fantastic, musical colleagues.
My love for sound and sound engineering only really broke through during my years as technical director within the board of the Bruges choir ‘The Bare Necessities’. I learned to write technical scripts, stage plans and I developed a huge fascination for the people behind the sound mixers.
Passion for sound
Several years ago, I took my first steps to become a professional sound engineer through the ‘Professional Music Production’ course at Musicasa. A wonderful and unforgettable apprenticeship in the beautiful recording studio The Musical Box, in Roeselare. There I learned the tricks of the trade with expert guidance from my teacher Vincent Brulez, a true mentor and a top sound engineer in Belgium.
I also took many courses on Recording, Mixing and Mastering with Joe Gilder (music producer and mixing/mastering engineer - US) and Ian Shepherd (mastering engineer - UK).

Whether it is live performance, studio recording, mixing and/or a mastering assignment, I am here to offer customised sound solutions to my clients' unique needs. My goal is to create an immersive sound experience that captures and conveys the essence of the music. I am open to new collaborations with artists, bands and event organisers.
